Menopausal change is a process of metamorphosis that is gifted to every woman in her midlife. Some of us hear the call earlier, some of us later - but ready or not, we can’t avoid the task to transform from the woman we were in our reproductive years to a new identity that is not yet formed. We know there is a journey waiting to be undertaken. We cannot rest, we cannot sleep. Something in us knows that we must shake off the old skin in order to make room for the new.
Leaving behind what is familiar can be one of the most terrifying aspects of the midlife transformation. The change doesn’t happen over night but comes in 3 distinctive phases: the peri-menopause, menopause itself and post menopause. In many cultures menarche and menopause are seen as rites of passage in a woman’s life. In the old traditions initiations were designed to create a radical alteration in one's being. 3 things typically happened in a genuine initiation: a severing from the world that we knew, a radical alteration in one's sense of identity and a profound realisation that we can never go back to the way things were. It is a ripening process meant to deepen our relationship with ourselves and the world.
Many of us have lost the ways to enter this journey in community, with guidance and support. All we have is a medicalised story.
The red thread offers support, workshops, community building, events, celebrations and rituals to anyone who is on the journey and does not want to walk alone. It supports women to connect to the thread that guides their life and promotes our uniquely feminine story of empowerment to unfold.
Our time of change is a time of power. Let’s not walk it alone.
